Organic Black Lentil Seeds. Lens culinaris. 80 to 110 days to maturity. Certified Organic by OTCO. Hardy Annual. Heirloom, Open Pollinated, Non-GMO. Use for vegetable gardening and sprouting. Produces dark black lentils slightly smaller than other lentil varieties. A staple of Indian cuisine (Daal), these Indian black lentils do well in cooler temps and can be planted after the last frost of spring in soil with good drainage. A relative of peas, black lentils grow in pods containing one or more lentils per pod. Harvest when pods rattle, but before they start to split. For sprouts, pre-soak for 6 to 8 hours and rinse several times daily. Sprouts are ready in 2 to 3 days.
