Sol Soils Potting Mixes

Our Seedling and Propagation Mix is perfect for seed starting or propagating a stem or leaf cutting. It is designed to be much finer and moisture retentive than our other mixes and is compatible with all plant types.

Calcined Clay maintains consistent moisture in the adjacent soil to keep it from getting soggy or bone dry.

Hardwood Biochar has a porous structure enhances beneficial microbes, promotes root development, and boosts disease resistance. It also regulates soil pH, reduces nutrient leaching, and can replace synthetic materials like perlite in nurseries.

Earthworm Castings are organic amendments that enhances moisture retention, provide essential minerals, and are safely absorbed by seedlings, avoiding the risks of burning associated with synthetic fertilizers.

Coconut Husks provide excellent moisture retention and aeration for strong root development while preventing root rot. This sterile, sustainable peat moss alternative requires soaking to remove harmful tannins for effective use in growing mediums.

Our Potting Mixes are engineered to be more forgiving of a wide range of plant care styles--whether you're a beginner or have cultivated houseplant collection. Our lineup of potting substrates allow a more consistent flow of oxygen to the root system, leading to less stress and more growth over time. Regardless of the type of plant you have, we have a mix designed for their natural preferences.

Normal potting mix requires repotting every 12-18 months. Our Sol Soils Potting Mixes don’t break down or get hydrophobic in the same manner, and allow for 24-36 months before needing a refresh. However, if you notice growth not starting again for a growing season, it may indicate the roots have grown a lot and it wants a larger pot because it’s root-bound! A sign of healthy growth!

We still hand mix, fill, and seal every bag in small batches. While we feel this is the best method to make sure the quality stays as high as possible, it does mean there's variation in every bag. Some bags are chunkier and some are finer within every batch. Rest assured, they'll perform as expected even with this variation!
