Product description
Customers rave about our coco fiber!
Coco fiber, also known as coir, is a natural, renewable material made from the inner shell of the coconut. The shells are soaked to loosen the fibers, then separated, washed, and dried in a process called "retting." The residual pith from this process is also used in horticulture applications.
Coir has a water holding capacity of up to 10 times its weight, has a neutral PH, excellent aeration properties, and is naturally resistant to bacteria and fungi, making it the material of choice for many gardening tasks.
Traditionally used peat moss is slow to form and more difficult to harvest in an environmentally safe fashion. Coconuts can be harvested twice a year, a quickly and easily renewable resource by comparison.
Customers tell us they prefer the texture and quality of our coco bricks. They find the finely-ground, even texture perfect for their composting toilets, worm bins, and potting mixes.
Once our coco brick is soaked it will expand to an approximate 2 gallon volume, so you'll need a container at least that large. Add the brick and 1.2 gallons of very warm water to the container. Once the water is absorbed the coco fiber is ready to be fluffed and used. For potting mix, a basic recipe would be 1/3 each coco, compost, & perlite. Amounts may be adjusted based on crop requirements.
